N’golo Kante
The French midfielder has developed strings of injuries in the past few years and this has stuttered his career inevitably. The Chelsea midfielder recently underwent surgery on a hamstring injury last month which will sideline him for four months. N’golo Kante was instrumental in the French team who won the last world cup in 2016. He will surely be missed.
Paul Pogba
Paul Pogba was confirmed to have sustained a reoccurring injury and has since then had surgery but still has a long way to recover. Pogba is yet to play any official match for his new club Juventus. His agent has revealed that the 29-year-old will be out of action until after the World Cup.
Sergio Ramos
Spain’s Sergio Ramos, a World Cup and two-time European Championship-winning centre-back, will not make the trip to Qatar. Ramos, 36, has been out of the national team picture ever since his injury-plagued 2021-22 season.
Ramos has been a consistent performer in the back for Paris Saint-Germain this season but the national team manager Luis Enrique has decided not to pick the veteran.
Roberto Firmino
The Liverpool forward did not make the World Cup squad, he has not been in a Brazil squad since July 2021 and spent an injury-riddled campaign with Liverpool where he played just 20 matches in the league, however, this season, he has scored seven goals in the league in 13 matches but the Brazilian coach, Tite, don’t seem to need the forward.
Jadon Sancho
Sancho moved to Manchester United in a world-class deal from Borussia Dortmund since then the English forward has failed to reproduce his form after the £73 million move last year. He was dropped from the England squad last November and hasn’t made a comeback since. Thiago Alcantara
Surprisingly, Thiago Alcantara was not selected for the World Cup by Luis Enrique, the midfield maestro’s omission also seems to suggest that Spain is looking into the future. In form, Napoli striker Victor Osimhen will be watching the World Cup on TV as the Super Eagles failed to qualify for the World Cup after losing to Ghana in the final round of the qualifying matches on away goals.
