Remaining Kidnapped NYSC Members Rescued in Zamfara

There has been a successful rescue of the last remaining Prospective Corps Member (PCM) kidnapped in Zamfara in August 2023.

Brig Gen Yusha’u Ahmed, the Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), made the announcement which brings an end to the harrowing ordeal of the eight PCMs and their bus driver who were abducted while traveling to Sokoto for their national service.

The rescue effort was a collaborative effort between the Nigerian Army, Nigeria Police, State Security Service (SSS), and traditional rulers.

It was revealed that the NYSC worked tirelessly to ensure the safe release of the corps members, with the first rescue occurring on August 30, 2023, and the subsequent rescues happening in the following months.

Ahmed disclosed that no ransom was paid for the release of any of the youth corps members, contrary to media reports.

He praised God, the security agencies, and Nigerians for their support and prayers during the challenging period.

Two of the rescued corps members, Esudue Emmanuel and Victoria Udoka, shared their traumatic experiences and thanked God, the NYSC, and the Nigerian Army for their release.

The NYSC Director of Information and Public Relations, Eddy Megwa, who retired on Friday, described the rescue as the climax of his exit from public service.

Megwa commended the efforts of the security agencies, the media, and the parents of the corps members for their steadfastness and belief in the Nigerian government.
