Prominent human rights activist and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Mike Ozekhome has called on the current administration led by President Bola Tinubu to consider changing Nigeria’s name and national flag.

Ozekhome commended Tinubu’s Government for reinstating the old national anthem, describing it as a positive development. He added that the change in the national anthem was long overdue.

In a press conference on Wednesday, he stressed that Tinubu’s action aligned with his earlier motion at the 2014 National Conference.

He said:
“Bringing the old National Anthem back is well overdue. It has better lyrics in content and context like the Senate President said. It is better than the other one.

“The name Nigeria and the flag should also be changed.”

Recall that Tinubu signed the National Anthem Bill 2024 into law on Wednesday, officially restoring the old anthem, “Nigeria, We Hail Thee” which was written in 1959 by Lillian Jean Williams, a then-British expatriate.
