A member of the House of Representatives, Abdulsamad Dasuki, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to dismiss his appointees in the security sector, citing poor performance and failure to meet the expectations of Nigerians.

Dasuki made this call during a debate on a motion condemning the recent suicide bombing in Borno State, sponsored by Ahmed Jaha.

“The president appointed several northerners into the security sector to take care of insecurity in the North, but they have not been able to do that,” Dasuki said.

“We need a scapegoat, and the House should urge the President to sack all his political appointees in the security sector.”

Dasuki’s remarks come after a series of security-related issues in the country, including the recent bombing in Borno State. The lawmaker argued that the security appointees have not lived up to expectations, despite being in their positions for over ten months.

“In the last year that we have been inaugurated, no one has been sacked. It is high time we hold people responsible. It is high time we find a scapegoat, which is justifiable. These guys have not lived up to expectations,” Dasuki said.

Some of the northern political appointees in the security sector include the Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru, the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, the Minister of Police, Ibrahim Gaidam, and the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu.

However, the Chairman of the House Committee on Navy, Yusuf Gagdi, disagreed with Dasuki’s argument that the security sector was handed to northerners, pointing out that the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and the Chief of Army Staff, Taoreed Lagbaja, are southerners.

Following the debate, the House resolved to condemn the bombing and asked the Committee on National Security and Intelligence to investigate the development.
