Uncertainty continues to hover over the future of Real Madrid defender Ferland Mendy as doubts emerge about his continuity at the club. The 28-year-old left-back had a forgettable 2022/23 season, plagued by injuries, and even when he was fit, he did not perform at his best.
Reports suggest that Real Madrid, the Spanish capital giants, are prepared to sell Mendy this summer due to these concerns. AS (h/t Madrid Xtra) reports that the club aims to recoup most, if not all, of the €48 million they paid Olympique Lyon to secure his signing in 2019.
Mendy joined Real Madrid four years ago and gradually claimed the left-back position from Marcelo, becoming a permanent fixture in the team’s defense. While manager Carlo Ancelotti still has faith in him and wishes to retain him for the upcoming season, the club’s administration holds a different viewpoint.

There is reported interest from Saudi Arabian clubs in acquiring the services of the 28-year-old, presenting an opportunity for Real Madrid to capitalize on the situation and recoup the €48 million they invested in him four years ago.
Despite the rumors linking Mendy to the Middle East, his agent recently dismissed such claims, stating:
“There is no truth to the rumors about Saudi Arabia and Ferland Mendy. Every morning, new players are being linked to Saudi Arabia. Soon it will be Mbappé going to Saudi Arabia and so on. It’s all baseless. Mendy is happy at Real Madrid.”
Mendy’s contract with Real Madrid runs until 2025, and if the club decides not to sell him now, they will be unable to fetch a significant transfer fee for the left-back in the future. Therefore, it remains to be seen whether an exit materializes or if the Frenchman stays with the club.
