The House of Representatives, on Thursday, passed a bill to reinstate Nigeria’s former national anthem, “Nigeria We Hail Thee”.

The decision came after a swift passage through all three readings, which took mere minutes to complete.

House Leader Professor Julius Ihonvbere stressed the importance of the national anthem as a symbol of authority and unity. He advocated for a return to the old anthem, citing its importance in representing the country’s heritage.

However, Minority Leader Kingsley Chinda opposed to bill, pointing out the colonial connotations of the old anthem. He questioned the necessity of changing the national anthem at a time when the country faces more pressing issues.
