The report focused on the alleged criminal activities of SARS operatives most especially in the southern states. It also featured the accounts of victims and families who died in the hands of the dreaded SARS operatives.

Recall that the SARS, a police unit notorious for brutalization of citizens was disbanded as announced by the immediate past Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu in October, 2020 over reports of brutality, extra judicial killings, among other criminal activities.

The unit was dissolved following widespread outrage against police brutalities during the #EndSARS protest in October 2020.

The spokesman of the PSC, Ikechukwu Ani, also confirmed receiving the report titled ‘ENDSARS: Police Brutality, Protests and Shrinking Civic Space in Nigeria.’

Ani stated that the group which was led by Zikora Ibe submitted the report to the commission on Monday.

Reacting to the report, Justice Clara Ogunbiyi, the commissioner representing the Judiciary in PSC, stated that the report made serious allegations, adding that the commission would do justice by conducting investigation.

Ogunbiyi, who received the group also assured that the PSC would conduct its investigation and ensure that all perpetrators are brought to book.

She commended the organisation for working hard to ensure that justice is served for all victims of police brutality, adding that the commission has already convicted some dreaded SARS operatives and will still continue to do its best to improve the operation of the Nigeria police.
