Singer Ric Hassani shared his perspective on the state of the Afrobeats genre, expressing concern about its declining quality.
He remarked that while hit songs from earlier years were known for their quality, the current wave of popular Afrobeats tracks “isn’t very good music.”
Hassani appeared on the Channels TV program Rubbin’ Minds with Ebuka, where he discussed how the rapid growth of Afrobeats might be affecting its quality.

“Afrobeats is Nigerian music. Our guys are top 10, but the quality of the music could be dropping because more people want to get in,” he said.
“Back in the day, hit songs were serious music, but now almost anyone can come in. Most of the hit songs in Nigeria now are not very good music. It didn’t used to be like this. Because we’ve been number one for so long, it seems everyone is just dropping whatever they like and backing it with money.”
