Rio Ferdinand, a legendary figure at Manchester United, expressed his belief that England international Danny Welbeck should have remained at the club.
Welbeck, a product of Manchester United’s esteemed academy, broke into the first team in 2008. Despite loan spells at clubs like Preston North End and Sunderland, Welbeck returned to Old Trafford in 2011.
During his time at Manchester United from 2011 to 2014, Welbeck made 114 appearances, contributing 24 goals and 18 assists to the team.
Ferdinand, who shared the pitch with Welbeck on 71 occasions at United, winning 41 games and losing 18, conveyed his opinion that Welbeck should have prolonged his stay at the club.
These sentiments from Ferdinand emerged following Welbeck’s recent goal for his current team, Brighton, in their 2-1 victory against Liverpool on Sunday.
When asked if he reached out to Danny Welbeck after the match, Ferdinand responded during an interview with FIVE (as quoted by HITC):
