Senate Adjourns Plenary for Chamber Renovation

The Senate has adjourned plenary till May 7 to facilitate further refurbishment of its chamber.

Following the Easter and Sallah breaks, the Senate reconvened on Tuesday but encountered operational issues, notably poor audio quality within the chamber.

After a six-week recess, the senators resumed in the newly renovated chamber, which opened over two years after reconstruction began.

Presiding over the session, Deputy Senate President, Jibrin Barau, announced the adjournment till May 7 to allow for the finalisation of ongoing works in the chamber.

In his statement, Barau explained that some finishing touches need to be done in the chamber.

Consequently, the Red Chamber will not be in session on Wednesday, as it is Workers’ Day, and will allow those working on the refurbishment to continue their work until Monday. The Senate will reconvene on Tuesday, May 7.

Earlier during Tuesday’s plenary, reports emerged that there were brawls and quarrels among ranking senators over the sitting arrangement in the newly-renovated chamber.
