Former West Ham United goalkeeper Shaka Hislop has endorsed Manchester City midfielder Rodri as a strong candidate for the 2024 Ballon d’Or.
Hislop believes Rodri deserves the award over other contenders such as Vinicius Jr of Real Madrid and Brazil, Jude Bellingham of England and Real Madrid, and Dani Carvajal of Spain and Real Madrid.
Rodri played a crucial role in Manchester City’s successful defense of their Premier League title, making 50 appearances, scoring nine goals, and providing 14 assists. He also shone for Spain at Euro 2024, where he played seven matches and was named the tournament’s best player.

On ESPN UK’s YouTube channel, Shaka Hislop explained, “I’m backing Rodri. Despite Manchester City’s penalty loss to Real Madrid in the Champions League, Rodri’s impact on City’s success and Spain’s Euro victory was significant. I believe Rodri was more influential than Carvajal for Real Madrid.”
Rodri will face tough competition from Vinicius Jr, Bellingham, and Carvajal, all of whom achieved a La Liga and UEFA Champions League double with Real Madrid.
