Tragedy struck in Ondo State as two young siblings were burnt to death after a fire razed their home in Ode-Aye, located in Okitipupa Local Government Area.

The victims, six-year-old Queen Ohwo and her four-year-old sister, Everlyne Ohwo, were reportedly trapped inside their apartment on Olaribigbe Street in the Zion area when the inferno broke out.

According to the Ondo State Police Command, the children, who are daughters of Mr and Mrs Peter Ohwo, died in the blaze, which preliminary findings suggest may have been caused by negligence during cooking activities.

Police spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, confirmed that officers swiftly responded to the scene, where necessary documentation and photographs were taken.

He disclosed that the remains of the children, which were severely burnt, had been evacuated to a health facility in Ode-Aye, while their parents were left in deep shock and trauma.

Jimoh added that the Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, has ordered a thorough and discreet investigation to determine the exact cause of the fire and circumstances surrounding the incident.

“The Divisional Police Officer has been directed to secure the scene, obtain statements from witnesses, and work with the Federal Fire Service to establish the origin and extent of the fire,” he said.
