Soldier Dies in Rivers Gunboat Mishap

The Nigerian Army, 6 Division, Port Harcourt, has lost one of its officers in a boat mishap that occurred on the Bolo waterway, in Ogu-Bolo Local Government Area of Rivers State.

Major Danjuma Jonah, the Acting Deputy Director, 6 Division Army Public Relations, in a statement, confirmed that the soldier died last weekend while on active duty.

The Army spokesperson disclosed that a gunboat carrying the deceased was hit by a turbulent wave, which threw him overboard, and he was nowhere to be found.

According to the statement the soldier’s lifeless body and the boat involved in the accident were retrieved following launch of  search and rescue mission.

Jonah further said the deceased paid the supreme sacrifice in the defence of his fatherland and service to humanity, adding that the Nigerian Army would greatly miss him.
