Youths of Ogulagha community, Burutu Local Government Area of Delta state on Friday shutdown the gate of the Forcados terminal, Daily Report Nigeria reports.

The shutdown of one of the major oil terminals in Nigeria, is attributed to alleged marginalization and deprivation by the Shell Petroleum Development Company.

Comrade ThankGod Iyoragba, the President of Ogulagha youths decried the modern day slavery meted on the people of Ogulagha by the SPDC.

Iyoroagba, who spoke with our correspondent at the protest venue, called on the company to recall sacked indigenous workers among all other demands.

In a statement titled “demands made by protesting youths of Ogulagha community,” the youths made the following demands with immediate effect.

1. Grant total access to Ogulagha community leadership in to Forcados Terminal gate

2. Calling back of the community sacked workers.

3. Employment of more Ogulagha community indigenes by SPDC.

4. Conversion of community contract staff to fulltime workers.

5. Increment of community workers salary and welfare.

Some of the youths who spoke with Daily Report Nigeria, demanded for the SPDC to employ indigenous graduates and skilled indigenes to managerial positions in the company.

Representatives of the company who were denied entrance into the Forcados Terminal refused to comment on the protest that still gathers more momentum at the time of filing this report.

The Ogulagha community leadership also threw their weight behind the protest action carried out by the youths, saying it is long overdue.

Mr Daniel Sunday, the Secretary of Ogulagha community, called on the Federal and State governments to intervene on situation, to prevent a further escalation.

He however, urged the youths to maintain peace and order while echoing their demands.
