A tragic accident occurred on Oda Road in Akure, Ondo State Capital, where a speeding truck crushed a motorcyclist to death early Wednesday morning.

The unidentified motorcyclist was reportedly returning home after dropping his children at school when the unfortunate incident happened.

According to an eyewitness, identified simply as Kunle, the tragic accident occurred shortly after the victim had dropped his children at school and was heading home. He said the driver of the truck, who was speeding uncontrollably, lost control and rammed into the motorcyclist, killing him instantly.

“The man had just dropped his children at school and was returning home when the tipper crushed him. It was a very sad scene, people were shocked and helpless,” Kunle said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that the deceased’s body was later evacuated and taken to a nearby mortuary. The driver of the truck, however, fled immediately after the accident and has not yet been apprehended.

When contacted, the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ondo State, Dr. Samuel Ibitoye, and the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Olushola Ayanlade, said they were yet to be officially briefed on the incident.

The tragic event has thrown residents of the area into mourning, reigniting calls for stricter enforcement of speed limits and road safety regulations on major roads across Akure.
