Super Eagles caretaker coach Augustine Eguavoen has expressed the team’s strong determination to begin their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign on a positive note. The Super Eagles will open their journey with a home match against the Cheetahs of Benin Republic at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo this Saturday.
Augustine Eguavoen emphasized the team’s commitment to securing a win against their opponents, underlining that the squad is fully focused on the task ahead.
“Our goal is simple: to secure six points from both games,” Eguavoen said in an interview with thenff.com. “The players are aware of this and are committed to achieving it. We know that no qualifying match is easy, and every team is aiming for a spot in the finals. But we’ve had conversations with the players, and everyone is on the same page.”

He added that while the team is fully focused on the match against Benin Republic, there is no talk of revenge. “Our priority is to get three points on Saturday and then go for another three in Kigali on Tuesday. That will set us up well for qualification.”
The match is set to kick off at 5 pm Nigeria time.
