PSG in Advance Talks With Messi

Lionel Messi Leaves Barcelona

Paris Saint-Germain are in advanced discussions and meetings with former Barcelona star, Lionel Messi.

According to Sky’s information in Italy, they might be the club to sign the Argentine goal machine.

The meeting held to sign the 34-year-old grew intense on Friday. The deal has the potential of taking longer to conclude, though look likely to take pull through.

Under the management of Mauricio Pochettino, PSG has emerged as one of the bidders for his signature. A reunion with former Barcelona team-mate, Neymar Jr makes it more promising.

PSG thinks they have what’s needed to get Messi on board, a good chance of completing a deal, and enough to afford to sign him without breaking any Financial Fair Play rules.

Messi has officially been a free agent since July 1 after failing to agree to terms over a renewal before his previous Barca contract expired on June 30.

Messi had spent his entire career at Barcelona, coming through the club’s academy before scoring 672 goals in 778 appearances after making his senior debut in 2003.

Wage caps in La Liga is based on a club’s financial health, and they must adhere to the lid to avoid financial penalties.

The effect of the Covid-19 pandemic has severely reduced Barca’s budget for the new campaign and, after further talks with the league and Messi on Thursday, the numbers do not add up.

On Wednesday, New investment in La Liga from CVC Capital Partners was announced and brought hope of £230m windfalls to help Messi’s new five-year deal be financially viable.

The Transfer Show’s host, Kaveh Solhekol, explains the financial challenges facing any club that attempts to sign Messi.

However, sources in Spain told Sky Sports that Barcelona is – at the moment – opposing the CVC investment because they do not want to give up future revenue to the company, along with Real Madrid.

La Liga’s executive board unanimously approved the deal, but the clubs are yet to vote on it, which will take place on August 12.

However, La Liga and Segunda clubs do not need Real and Barca’s approval for the deal.

Barcelona has declined to comment further than their statement when contacted by Sky Sports News, and we are also attempting to get La Liga for their comment.
