The Supreme Court has dismissed the appeal filed by Timipre Sylva and the All Progressives Congress (APC) against the re-election of Senator Douye Diri as the Governor of Bayelsa State.

The apex court ruled that the appeal lacked merit and amounted to a gross abuse of court processes.

This decision reaffirms the earlier rulings of the Court of Appeal and the Election Petition Tribunal, which had also dismissed Sylva’s petition for lack of credible evidence.

The Supreme Court’s ruling confirms Diri’s victory in the November 11, 2023, governorship election.

Justice Garba Lawal delivered the lead judgment, stating that the appeal was without merit.

The decision is a significant milestone in the political landscape of Bayelsa State, putting to rest the legal challenges to Diri’s re-election.
