A suspected cultist has been arrested and an English-made pistol recovered by the Nasarawa State Police Command during a midnight patrol in Lafia, the state capital.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel, confirmed the development in a statement issued on Tuesday, revealing that the arrest occurred around 12:10 a.m. on July 8, 2025, near the A.A Rano Gas Plant.

“On July 8, 2025, at about 0010hrs, while on routine patrol behind the A.A Rano Gas Plant in Lafia, operatives from Ombi 1 Division intercepted three young men dressed in red clothing, a common symbol associated with cult activities,” the statement read.
According to Nansel, the suspects fled upon sighting the patrol team, but officers gave chase and succeeded in arresting one of them.
The suspect was later identified as 38-year-old Hassan Isah Sidi, a resident of Millionaires Quarters in Lafia.
A search conducted on him led to the recovery of an English-made pistol and a set of charms believed to be used for criminal purposes. Police say efforts are ongoing to apprehend the two others who escaped.
Commending the officers for their swift response, the Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, reiterated the command’s commitment to eradicating cultism and related crimes across the state.
“The public is urged to remain law-abiding, security-conscious, and to promptly report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station,” SP Nansel added.
Man Arrested for Allegedly Stealing Goods From Moving Truck in Lagos
A 47-year-old man, Taiwo Hassan, has been arrested by operatives of the Lagos State Rapid Response Squad (RRS) for his alleged involvement in the theft of goods from a moving truck in the Costain area of Lagos.
The arrest, which occurred at about 2:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 6, followed weeks of surveillance prompted by credible intelligence. Hassan was reportedly caught in the act of transferring stolen items into a waiting vehicle.
