“You Can’t Be In Corruption And Be Fighting Curruption” – Bishop Oyedepo Blasts FG

Bishop David Oyedepo, the founder and President of Living Faith Church Worldwide has described President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration as the most corrupt regime so far in Nigeria.

Speaking during a church programme, Special Prayer for The Nation, on Monday, Oyedepo lamented the level of hardship Nigerians have been imposed with due to corruption in the country.

According to Oyedepo, the Federal Government claimed to be fighting corruption but the officials are also corrupt.

He said the N80 billion allegedly stolen by the Accountant-General of the Federation, Ahmed Idris, would be enough to meet the demands of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, which led to the shutting down of schools since April 14.

He said;

“Many children are out of school, there is nothing to pay to get them back to school. We saw some folks in Covenant University that we had to help out to graduate. First-class students can’t get N30,000 to pay under this wicked government, selfish, self-centered.

“What a fight against corruption? You were all deceived, you can’t be in corruption and be fighting corruption. This is the most corrupt regime in the history of Nigeria.

“You heard of Auditor General who stole N80 billion, all they need to get the university up and running in less than the N80 billion but they are not interested because their children are not there.”

Finally, FG Announces Date to End Fuel Subsidy

The Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed, has said that the Federal Government will do away with petroleum subsidy by June 2023.

This was disclosed on Tuesday in Abuja during a press conference to mark the end of the 28th National Economic Summit.

According to the Minister, fuel subsidy gulped N2.565tn between January and August 2022.

Also, in the Medium-Term Expenditure Framework, the Federal Government proposed to spend N3.3tn on fuel subsidy between January and June 2023.

According to Ahmed, removal of fuel subsidy is part of the FG’s medium-term plan in the budget.

She, however, said that the challenge was how to go about removing the subsidy.

“First, we have to engage. We have already engaged with the states and the public before it was approved as part of the medium-term plan.

“We have to do it by systematically informing the citizens about the size and the quantum of the fuel subsidy.

“We also have to educate them about the opportunity cost of what we are unable to do because of the fuel subsidy,” she said.

The minister noted that the fuel subsidy, in addition to budget deficit, is putting enormous pressure on the “fiscals”.

“It is not money that we have; it is money that we have to borrow to maintain the fuel subsidy.

“Some countries introduced subsidy during the COVID-19, and because of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, but they are using their money to fund such subsidy.

“In our case, we are borrowing to pay the subsidy; that is double jeopardy. It is something that has to stop.

“We are glad that majority of people in decision-making positions, including the political parties, have agreed that subsidy is not sustainable.

”The plan is, by June 2023, we must have completely exited subsidy, and it has to be a gradual process,” she said.

2023 Presidency: Buhari Speaks on Favorite Candidate to Succeed Him

President Muhammadu Buhari has finally let the cat out of the bag on who the preferred candidate to succeed him is.

The President played down any thoughts of having a preferred candidate ahead the 2023 Presidential election.

Buhari emphasized that he has no favourite candidate to succeed him when his tenure elapses.

The former Head of State also promised to handover power to a candidate elected by Nigerians as his successor in 2023.

The President stated this while addressing journalists after observing the Eid-el-Fitr prayers in Abuja.

Stressing that he has no special candidate to succeed him, Buhari said the best person to succeed him is “the person that Nigerians elect”.

The President also urged security agencies to redouble efforts in the fight against insecurity.

“We’ll continue to make the environment secure, especially when the rainy season is coming, so that farmers can go back to their farms and we wouldn’t have problems of food security.

“Heads of the services — army, navy, air force, the inspector-general of police, and so on — are very much aware of the situation. It’s their duty to know where the terrorists are and eliminate them,” he said.
