Tanker Explosions Kill 5 in Rivers

On Friday night, a tragic incident occurred on the East-West route in Eleme, Rivers State, involving tankers carrying petroleum products that caught fire, killing 5 persons.

The incident caused passengers to be stuck for hours, with some victims reportedly trapped in their vehicles as the explosions continued.

The cause of the explosions is currently unknown, but eyewitnesses have attributed the incident to “dangerous driving and negligence.”

According to reports, one tanker collided with a vehicle, leading to a chain reaction of explosions.

A motorist identified as Precious said:

So it was difficult for me even to reverse my vehicle. We meandered and packed somewhere.

“Only for us to come back and see that more than 100 vehicles were burnt.

“There are people burnt in their vehicles and some people running were also caught in the inferno.”
