Coordinators of the Bomadi-Ohoro road axis of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited have commended the Urhobo Progress Union (UPU) for the group’s swift retraction of an open letter against the company.
The UPU cited being oblivious of updated information with its engagement with Tantita as a cause for its open letter to President Bola Tinubu calling for the sack of the company from Urhobo territories.
The UPU retraction dated July 7, 2025 read in part;
“We refer to our carlier letter dated 2nd June, which was acknowledged on 24th June by Mr. Isah Haruna, concerming the operations of Tantita Security Services in Urhobo Land.

“We wish to emphatically state that the information available to us at the time of writing the initial letter has since changed.
“Based on updated insights and a broader understanding of the situation, we have engaged in constructive dialogue with Tantita Security Services and the Urhobo Progress Union (UPU) in an effort to amicably resolve the issues previously raised. In light of this development, we hereby formally withdraw our earlier letter,” the UPU said.

In a statement signed by Tupac Kelvin Ayemi, Awipi Lawson, Jackson Agbor, Bekes Pigha, Okilo Jack, Okporu Augustine, the coordinators called for more support for Tantita, and warned against further blackmail against the company.
“We wish to commend the Urhobo Progress Union (UPU) for the swift retraction of ill-informed open letter against Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited to President Bola Tinubu.
“The decision is clear indication that the company has always prioritized appropriate engagement with all critical stakeholders and local communities in the discharge of its duties.
“The entire Urhobo nation has confirmed that Tantita means well for the Niger Delta region. We therefore call all critical stakeholders to rally behind the company and offer necessary support,” the statement read.
They blamed the recent actions against the company as handiwork of “some expired power drunk leaders of Itsekiri who have now openly resorted to sponsoring calls for the termination of Tantita Security Services’ pipeline surveillance contract awarded to High Chief Government Ekpemupolo (Tompolo).
“This is a targeted and desperate attempt to cripple Tantita Security Services because Tompolo and his operatives have refused to allow them and their allies in the Itsekiri Nation to continue their criminal empire of illegal oil bunkering.

“These are men whose wealth is soaked in crude theft and blood money. Now that Tantita has shut down their backdoor pipelines, they are bitter, frustrated, and shamelessly fighting from behind the veil of ethnic organizations,” they said.
The coordinators extended their call to “the Federal Government, the NSA, and all intelligence agencies to immediately place these leaders under surveillance. Their actions are provocative, divisive, and dangerous.
“They are deliberately attempting to ignite communal tension between the Urhobo and Ijaw, two peoples who have lived side by side in peace. We will not fold our hands while known saboteurs try to destroy what Niger Delta sons have built through sweat, courage, and sacrifice.
“Let this serve as a final warning to all oil thieves hiding behind political titles and cultural umbrellas: Tantita has come to stay, and the people of the Niger Delta will never allow criminals to return us to the days of darkness and environmental ruin.
“To this end, we call on all detractors to put a final stop to the cheap blackmail and campaigns of calumny against Tantita and its management hierarchy.”
