Nigerian singer Gabriel Oche Amanyi, popularly known as Terry G, has responded to critics who mock him over claims that his career is no longer relevant.
Taking to Instagram, the self-acclaimed Akpako Master addressed those who say his time in the spotlight is over. He emphasized that legendary status should come with lifelong respect, using American music icons Jay Z and Beyoncé as examples.

“I hear people say, ‘Your time don pass!’—and it sounds like brain damage,” he wrote.
Terry G pointed out the difference in how legends are treated in the West versus Africa. According to him, Western icons are celebrated regardless of age, while African pioneers are often disregarded.
“In the West, legends are respected for life. No one calls Jay Z or Beyoncé outdated. Their impact is honoured,” he said.
“But here in Africa, especially Nigeria, we’re quick to discard our own. That’s why we believe our ancestors were evil, while Western ancestors are seen as gods. It’s time to break free from that mindset.”
He concluded with a reminder on the importance of self-growth and relevance: “If you don’t keep adding value to yourself and those around you, your worth will fade—no matter how great you once were. We must do better.”
