Tinubu and Atiku Praises Super Falcons Despite Loss to England in 2023 WWC

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar have lauded the Super Falcons for bringing honour to Nigeria, despite their elimination from the 2023 Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

The Super Falcons exited the tournament after a Round of 16 loss to England’s Three Lionesses at the Brisbane Stadium in Queensland, Australia on Monday.

Both teams played to a goalless draw during regulation time.

Lauren James received a red card for an unnecessary stamp on Michelle Alozie. 

However, despite being down to one player, England persevered until the end of extra time and eventually defeated Nigeria 4-2 in a penalty shootout.

After the match, Tinubu and Atiku took to Twitter to commend the Nigerian women’s team for their determination to reach the knockout stage of the 2023 Women’s World Cup, even though they fought gallantly but were ultimately defeated.

The President tweeted, 

“I must commend the effort by our Super Falcons @NGSuper_Falcons at the FIFA Women’s World Cup,”

“Your brilliant performance did not go unnoticed despite the final outcome. You made Nigeria proud on the global stage!”

Atiku as well tweeted,

“We may have lost to England in a penalty shootout, but the @NGSuper_Falcons have every reason to hold their heads high.”
