Tinubu-Shettima: Muslim Youths Lambast Christian Leaders

Yoruba Muslim Youths Organisation (YMYO) has berated the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) leadership on its criticism of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential ticket for the 2023 election.

DAILY REPORT NG reports that Bola Tinubu, presidential flagbearer of the APC, will run with former governor of Borno state, Senator Kashim Shettima; both are Muslims.

The Muslim-Muslim ticket has been receiving opposition from the Christian leadership and some Nigerians.

In a statement on Tuesday, YMYO coordinator, Muritala Abdulsalam advised  CAN to allow Nigerians to vote for candidates based on merit and not religious sentiment,

He also called on the Christian body to stop inciting citizens against the ruling party, stressing that the constitution does not stipulate that an adherent of a particular religion must be the president and running mate.

“CAN should focus on good governance and accountability, rather than on the APC Muslim-Muslim ticket.

“CAN as a body of eminent Christian leaders, should not abdicate its primary responsibility by delving into politics.

“CAN is not a registered political party in Nigeria, why are the leaders getting more and more involved in politics”, He said.
