‘Tompolo Not Out For War,’ Group Debunks Viral Videos of N’Delta Warlord

The Egbesu Brotherhood has debunked the viral videos of revered Niger Delta freedom fighter, High Chief Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo, otherwise known as Tompolo allegedly rumoured to be a preparation for war against the Nigerian state by the warlord.

The refutation of the footages was contained in a press statement signed by the Deputy Leader of the Brotherhood, Ellington Bakumor, on Thursday, saying it is all “fake news.”

According to the Brotherhood, the
the former militant leader was merely celebrating his freedom after six years of hiding from the Nigerian government, and has no plans to go into war with anybody.

The statement reads;
“It has come to our notice of a fake news and propaganda flying around on social media, that our leader, High Chief Government Ekpemupolo, alias Tompolo is out for war against the Nigerian government.

“These war mongers who were busy pushing for the country to burn down seem to be in jubilant mode that a new video which surfaced of him dancing in a crowd of followers was a rehearsal to declare war on Nigeria.

“The video only shows Tompolo celebrating his Appeal Court victory and has nothing to do with war. The clash of his thanksgiving celebration with the current events in the country is just a coincidence

“They are suddenly looking for who will have the war chest to join a war they wanted without any plan.

“We are calling on the general public to note that Tompolo is not out for war. He was simply thanking the Deities of Ijaw land for his court victory and also praying for the peace of Ijaw nation, the Niger Delta and Nigeria at large.

“TomPolo also does not run a social media account. He’s neither on Facebook, Twitter nor Instagram. He doesn’t even have a personal email address. Hence, we urge those using his picture for any form of social media accounts or protest to stop with immediate effect.

“These rumor and war mongers should embrace peace and dialogue, and not use the face of our leader for their wicked agenda or propaganda,” he stated.

Continuing, “I call on genuine protesters to suspend the protests for now as criminal elements have infiltrated the ranks to wreck havoc, defeating the purpose of the protest. We should be able to conduct ourselves in a civilized manner.”

“I also want to use this medium to advice youths of Delta State to please obey the curfew order of His Excellency, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, whilst re-strategizing on a more peaceful approach in addressing our concerns to the Government,” Bakumor concluded.
