Heartbreaking Incident Before Rangers vs Fenerbahce Match

Christopher Potter, believed to be in his forties, was in Turkey to support his beloved club, Rangers, in their crucial Europa League round-of-16 match against Fenerbahce.

Reports indicate that he was crossing the street when he was struck by one vehicle and subsequently run over by another.

The incident reportedly took place around 4:30 AM local time, shortly after Potter had withdrawn money from an ATM and was making his way back to his hotel.

Two motorists have been detained in connection with the accident, as confirmed by local Turkish media.

Rangers FC and Fenerbahce Pay Tribute to Fallen Fan

Rangers FC released an official statement on their website, saying:

“The immediate thoughts of everyone at the club are with their family and friends at this incredibly difficult time.

We are remaining in constant contact with both the Turkish and British authorities over this tragic incident.”

In a show of sportsmanship and solidarity, Fenerbahce also released a statement offering their condolences:

“We have learned with deep sorrow about the tragic passing of a Rangers supporter who traveled to Istanbul for the UEFA Europa League match. Our heartfelt sympathies go out to his family, Rangers FC, and their supporters.”

> Rangers Supporters Club (@RangersSClub) via Twitter:

“Absolutely devastated by the loss of one of our own in Istanbul. Christopher Potter, you’ll never be forgotten. Thoughts and prayers go out to his family. 💙 #RangersFamily”

Match Went Ahead Despite Tragic News

Despite the devastating loss, 1st leg of Rangers and Fenerbahce still went ahead at Şükrü Saracoğlu Stadium with Rangers grabbing 3-1 victory.

Safety Reminders for Traveling Football Fans

To prevent similar tragedies in the future, authorities are reminding traveling football fans to:

Stay vigilant while navigating unfamiliar cities.

Follow traffic signals and avoid crossing roads when the pedestrian light is red.

Use designated pedestrian crossings and be mindful of road conditions.

Stay in groups whenever possible, especially late at night.
