Nigerian defender William Troost-Ekong has provided an update on his recovery, assuring fans that he will be ready for the start of the next football season.
Troost-Ekong underwent surgery last month following a thigh injury he sustained during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire, forcing him to be sidelined for the remainder of the current campaign.
However, the 30-year-old expressed confidence that he will be back in action by the end of May. His anticipated return will serve as a timely boost for the Super Eagles as they prepare to face South Africa and Benin Republic in a 2026 World Cup qualifier in June.

“I should be back and fit again in May, but I think it’s probably season over. You never know how rehab will go but I don’t want to rush it because at my tender age of 30 you have to be smart about these injuries,” Troost-Ekong told CNN World Sports.
“I want to be 100% for next season, 100% right. If I can play at the end of this season that’s great, if not then I will be ready for next season.”
