Following the injury, the 30-year-old missed the subsequent match against Guinea-Bissau. However, he displayed remarkable resilience by playing every minute of Nigeria’s remaining games in the tournament.
Throughout the AFCON 2023 finals, Troost-Ekong proved to be a pivotal player for the Super Eagles, scoring a total of three goals. His outstanding performances earned him the prestigious Player of the Tournament award.
Despite the injury setback, Troost-Ekong is expected to return to action for Greek side PAOK towards the end of the season, once he completes his recovery process.
