U.S. President Donald Trump has sparked global controversy after threatening to deploy American forces to Nigeria if the government fails to halt what he calls the killing of Christians in Nigeria.

In a fiery post shared on his Truth Social platform on Saturday, Trump said he had asked the Pentagon to be ready for what he described as a possible “guns-a-blazing” operation. He accused the Nigerian government of allowing Islamist militants to target Christian communities.

“If the Nigerian Government continues to allow the killing of Christians, the U.S.A. will immediately stop all aid and may very well go into that now disgraced country, ‘guns-a-blazing,’ to completely wipe out the Islamic terrorists responsible,” Trump wrote.

He added that he had instructed the “Department of War” to draft a possible military plan, warning that if an attack is approved, it would be “fast, vicious, and sweet.”

Trump ended with a direct warning: “THE NIGERIAN GOVERNMENT BETTER MOVE FAST!”

His latest remarks follow a previous post where he claimed that Christianity faces an “existential threat,” insisting that thousands of Christians have been killed and blaming what he called “radical Islamists.” He provided no evidence to support the figures he cited.

Trump’s comments have triggered intense reactions across political and diplomatic circles. Some supporters praised him for “speaking boldly,” while others criticized the language as reckless and inflammatory.

Security analysts and conflict researchers argue that Nigeria’s violence is more complex than a single religious narrative. According to several conflict-monitoring groups, the unrest involves banditry, political grievances, land disputes, and clashes between farming and herding communities, affecting both Muslims and Christians.

Nigeria remains a country divided almost evenly between a Muslim-majority north and a Christian-majority south. Over the years, religion, politics, and ethnicity have often mixed, creating tension and sometimes sparking violence.

While Trump frames the situation as targeted persecution of Christians in Nigeria, analysts say civilians of both faiths have suffered losses in multiple regions.

For now, the Nigerian government has not issued an official reply to Trump’s latest threat.
