The ban affected Nigerians holding regular passports, but not diplomatic passports.
Previous media reports had claimed that the ban was lifted after a meeting between President Tinubu and the UAE President.
Tinubu had met with UAE leader Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan in Abu Dhabi to “finalize a historic agreement,” according to the federal government’s statement.
However, a senior official from the Gulf state (name withheld) said:
“There are no changes on the Nigeria/UAE travel status so far.”
Recalled that former President Mohammadu Buhari had appealed to the UAE President to lift the ban in February, but the UAE authorities rejected the request.
