That finish took Victor Osimhen’s Champions League tally to ten goals — the first time a Nigerian has reached double figures in the competition proper — and pushed him past Obafemi Martins’ nine.

Victor Osimhen Hits 10 Champions League Goals, a Nigerian First
Victor Osimhen first scored in the Champions League for Lille in October 2019.

Since then he piled up more important strikes at Napoli and now with Galatasaray, building his continental record across several seasons and clubs.

His honours already speak loudly: he won the Serie A Golden Boot in 2022/23 with 26 goals and earned the CAF African Footballer of the Year award in 2023.

Those trophies explain why clubs, fans and rivals treat him as one of Africa’s leading forwards.

For Nigerian football, the result delivers headline value and momentum.
