If the government of Benin Republic continues to detain detained Yoruba nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo (popularly known as Sunday Igboho), the Agbekoya Farmers Society of Nigeria has revealed that it will use magical power to free him.

Speaking at a peaceful rally on the “State of the Nation” in Osogbo, the capital of Osun State, on Thursday, the association’s President, Chief Kamorudeen Okikiola, said Igoho is not a criminal, but a freedom fighter who is being held illegally due to the influence of the Nigerian government on the Benin Republic.

“Sunday Igboho is not a criminal, and we know he is being held illegally; the Benin Republic Government has stopped prosecuting him; therefore, we demand that he be released through legal channels, If they refuse, we will use our magical abilities to free him from prison. “I repeat, we Agbekoya will get him out of detention in Benin Republic and bring him back home,” he said.

On Nigeria’s socio-economic situation, Okikiola called for a reversal of the 1960 constitution or restructuring of the country before the 2023 general elections, adding that unless such a step is taken, the country will stagnate, regardless of who is elected president.

He decried the recent wave of insecurity across the country, warning of the dire consequences of politicians taking the masses for granted.

“It is important that we return to the 1960 constitution so that the various regions can enjoy good governance without having to compete for the presidency.”

“And if that is difficult, we should restructure the country to ensure adequate security of lives and property.” “The FG may decide to hold the election without listening to Nigerians’ yearnings for restructuring, but we believe that whoever is elected will not achieve anything under the current constitutional arrangement.”

“It is also important to note that politicians should stop taking Nigerians for granted because the consequences will be far too severe for the country to reunite,” he said.

Okikiola also advocated for traditional rulers to have a constitutional role in order to reduce insecurity in rural areas.
Members of Agbekoya from across the Southwest states attended the rally, which featured banners with inscriptions such as “free Sunday Igboho,” “Southwest Governors should rise and save Yorubaland from the invasion of bandits, kidnappers, ritualists, rappers, and so on,” and “Bandits now have colony within our country,” among others
Protesters gathered in Olaitan and marched through Odi-Olowo, Asubiaro, Isale-Osun, and Idi-Omo to Ataoja, Oba Jimoh Olaonipekun’s palace, where they handed over a letter to the royal father outlining their demands to the President.
