The Nigerian Senate has rejected calls to cut down its expenses due to economic hardship caused by the removal of fuel subsidy.

The rejection was disclosed on Monday by Sen Yemi Adaramodu, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs.

Adaramodu confirmed that the Senate cannot be held responsible for the economic challenges.

He stated that lawmakers perform vital functions, such as committee work and oversight, without receiving any additional allowances.

The Chairman’s statement comes shortly after a tribunal upheld his electoral victory against Sen Biodun Olujimi of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

President Bola Tinubu had declared the removal of petrol subsidy during his inauguration on May 29, 2023.
