Enzo Maresca, the head coach of Leicester City, has given an update on the progress of Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi recovery from injury.
Ndidi, 27, sustained a muscle injury in December, which sidelined him from action. Prior to his injury, Ndidi played a crucial role in Maresca’s plans, featuring in twenty-one games for the Foxes and netting two goals.
During the AFCON 2023 tournament, Ndidi had hoped to return to action within two weeks, but his recovery took longer than anticipated. According to Maresca, Wilfred Ndidi has resumed individual training, although he has yet to rejoin team sessions as he works to regain match fitness.

“They are all good, to be honest. Wilf is still out and that is all. He has already started to do some sessions with us, but part of the session, not all. Hopefully next week he can complete the session with us, which means he starts to be available. Hopefully, we can have Wilf back because, as you know, he is an important player for us. Now we are trying to find solutions to adapt players but hopefully, we can have him back very soon,” the Italian manager said in quotes revealed by the club’s official website.
While acknowledging Ndidi’s importance to the team, Maresca remained silent on the midfielder’s contract situation. Ndidi’s current contract with Leicester City expires in June, and there have been rumors linking him with a move to Tottenham Hotspur, possibly as part of a deal involving James Maddison.
