It’s quite evident that the party primary elections, which were monitored by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC have ended, and Nigerians can now picture the next president in their minds, here is a list of popular flagbearers ahead of the forthcoming general elections
The race for the presidential seat is not an easy one, although some people are bent on going through its rough routes, as they claim they would make Nigeria a better place.

Compiled in this list is a list of Nigerian celebrities who have emerged as flagbearers ahead of the forthcoming 2023 general election.

These highly respected celebrities have also joined the race alongside other political ‘godfathers’ like Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Abubakar Atiku, Peter Obi and other elites who have won different tickets as they all claim they will make Nigeria better.

List of Nigerian Celebrities Who Are Flagbearers For 2023 General Election

1. Adewole Adebayo

Popular Nigerian lawyer and founder of the KAFTAN Television, Adewole Adebayo has been announced as the flagbearer of the Social Democratic Party, SDP for the forthcoming 2023 general election.

In the primary election which drew delegates from the 36 states in Nigeria to the International Conference Center, Abuja, Adebayo defeated his opposition as he polled 1,546 votes against his closet rival, Kadijah Okunnu-Lamidi who polled 83 votes.
The Segun Oni-led convention planning committee declared 44 votes invalid.

Popular Nigerian musician, Banky W also emerged as a flag-bearer as he won the ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to contest for the House of Representatives, Eti-Osa Federal Constituency seat in the 2023 elections.
The music star-cum-politician polled 28 to defeat his closes opponent who gathered 3 votes.

Husband of veteran Nollywood actress, Mercy Johnson, Odi Okojie won the All Progressives Congress ticket for a House of Representatives seat for Edo State.

Okojie emerged as the flagbearer for the Esan North East/ South East federal constituency ahead of the 2023 general elections.

4. Prince Malik Ado-Ibrahim (YPP)

Price Malik emerged as the presidential candidate for Young Progressive Party (YPP).

The renowned activist and founder of Reset Nigeria Initiative polled 66 votes to defeat his rival, Ruby Issac with four votes.

5. Omoyele Sowore

Popular Nigerian activist and pro-democracy campaigner, Omoyele Sowore emerged as the presidential flagbearer of the African Action Congress (AAC) for the 2023 general election.

6. Professor Christopher Imumulen

A Nigerian professor of engineering, Christopher Imumulen was elected as the presidential candidate for Accord Party (AP).

The 39-year-old two Ph.D. holder pledged to improve the socio-economy state of Nigeria.

7. Mustapha Lamido

Son of former governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido, Mustapha Lamido emerged as the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.

Lamido defeated his opponent, Sale Shehu by 829 to zero votes, thereby securing the governorship ticket of the PDP.

8. Bello El-Rufai

Bello defeated a lawmaker, Samaila Suleiman, and won the All Progressive Congress (APC) ticket for the House of Representatives in the Kaduna North Federal Constituency.

9. Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu

This daughter of the former Governor of Delta State also secured the PDP for the Ethiope Federal Constituency ofpppppp Delta.

Ibori-Suenu had polled 46 votes to defeat her arch-rival, Ben Igbakpa, who scored only 22 votes in a run-off primary election.

10. Sen. Ademola Adeleke

Uncle to superstar Nigerian singer, Davido, Ademola Adeleke emerged as the flagbearer of the governorship ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Adeleke polled 1,887 votes against Dele Adeleke, who polled just one vote.

Meanwhile, senator Aishstu Dahiru, representing the APC for the Adawma Central won the governorship ticket of the state.

These are a few popular Nigerians who have won tickets for the different constituencies. Below are politicians who lost tickets.

Victor Umeh

The former National Chairman of All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA Chief Victor Umeh lost the nomination election for the senatorial ticket.

Umeh lost the APGA ticket to Dozie Nwankwo, who emerged as the winner of the Anambra Central Senatorial Zone by polling 162 votes against Umeh’s 151.

 

Senator Moses Cleopas

The senator from Bayelsa State also lost his primaries. The former state chairman of the PDP lost his chance to compete in the 2023 elections to ex-Secretary to the State Government, SSG, and two-time Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Konbowei Friday Benson.

 

Also, House of Representatives member, Honorable Joe Edionwele, who is representing Esan Central/Esan West/Iguebsn federal constituency lost his bid to run for the third term in Edo state.

In the House of Representatives, Hon Daniel Asuquo lost his third term ticket for Akampka/Biase federal constituency, and Hon. Chris Agibe representing Boki/Ikom federal constituency was also defeated.

Hon Abdulrazaq Namdas of Ganye/ Jada / Mao Belwa / Toungo federal constituency lost his bid to contest for governor of Adamawa on the platform of the APC.

 

President Muhammad Buhari’s nephew, Fatuhu Muhammad, who was representing Daura/Mai’Adua/Sandamu federal constituency lost in the primaries, thereby forfeiting being the flagbearer of the All Progressives Congress, APC, candidates in the 2023 election.

Fatuhu was defeated by Aminu Jamo, who polled 117 votes while Fatuhu got only 30 votes.

In the same story, Murtala Isa, who is currently representing Faskari/Sabuwa/Dandume constituency was defeated by the Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Dalhatu Tafoki.
