The Zamfara State Police have condemned the extortion allegations leveled against some officers.
Abubakar Dauran, the chairman of the State Task Force, told reporters that police officers were collecting money from people at gas stations.
He also warned the security agency not to go to such places because his committee had not invited them.

According to Mohammed Shehu, the Zamfara Command’s spokesman, no formal complaint has been made by residents or filling stations.
The Task Force boss, according to the Public Relations Officer, never lodged a verbal or written complaint against officers.
The Command characterized Dauran’s remarks as “misleading and an attempt to discredit his former constituency (the Police) and Governor Bello Matawalle” as they work to manage the fuel shortage.
Shehu challenged him to “prove his allegations in order for the Commissioner of Police to take decisive action against any of its indicted personnel.”
Abubakar Dauran, like any other citizen, is responsible for observing and reporting any Police misconduct.
“The Command assures the public that it will spare no effort in taking appropriate action against any of its erring personnel,” the statement continued.
