Portugal international, Cristiano Ronaldo has been rated the greatest football player of all-time by fans across the globe.

The Juventus forward was rated greatest of all time in a survey done on social media by foremost British sport news channel, Sky Sports.

The Portugal international topped eternal Argentine rival, Lionel Messi, the late Diego Maradona and Brazilian goal machine, Pele.

Sky Sports had asked it’s more than eight millions followers on Twitter and football fans across the world to vote for the greatest player of all time among Diego Maradona, Pele of Brazil, Barcelona legend Lionel Messi and Juventus superstar Cristiano Ronaldo.

Cristiano Ronaldo came top with 35.8 percent of the votes, with Lionel Messi finishing second best with 35.4 percent after the votes were concluded.

Diego Maradona, the famous ‘Hand of God’, who recently died of cardiac arrest finished with 16.7 percent of votes, while Pele who won three World Cup titles with Brazil ended in fourth place with 12.1 percent.

Cristiano Ronaldo versus Lionel Messi has been judged the biggest and longest rivalry between two players of the round leather game in history.

In a rivalry stretching over a decade, the duo have won 11 Ballon d’Or awards between them with Lionel Messi taking home six of those.

However, both players are yet to taste World Cup glory with their countries with Messi going the farthest in the competition with a final showing at the 2014 event in Brazil, losing to Mario Götze last gasp winner.

Pele and Diego Maradona won the World Cup with Brazil anr Argentina respectively.

While Pele took home three World Cup trophies, including the first as a 17-year-old teenager, Maradona oversaw a World Cup win mostly influenced by an individual player in 1986.
