A 24-year-old postgraduate student of the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA), Ondo State, Christopher Olusa, has set a new record of 112 hours 12 minutes for the longest speech marathon.
Olusa broke the previous record of 90 hours and two minutes held by a Nepali, Ananta Ram, from August 27 to August 31, 2018.
Although Olusa set out to hit 120 hours, he could not hit the target.

Olusa started the speech marathon at 2 am local time on Monday, September 11, 2023, and ended it at 6 pm on Friday, September 15, 2023.
The Vice Chancellor of FUTA, Prof Adenike Oladiji, and a team from the institution were present to support Olusa’s quest.
The Guinness World Records had given the FUTA student the go-ahead to dabble in the world record event, tagged “From words to world records”.
As of press time, the GWR had not confirmed the record.
