Nigeria’s Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari, revealed that the country’s economy received a substantial boost of N309 billion through harvests in the last year, as part of President Bola Tinubu’s administration’s efforts to ensure food security.
During the 3rd ministerial sectoral update, marking the president’s first anniversary, Kyari highlighted the ministry’s achievements, including the launch of dry season farming, which saw the cultivation of 118,657 hectares of wheat across 15 states.
Also, the government distributed 58,500 metric tons of milled rice to states and the FCT to combat rising prices and fortified crops with vitamin A micronutrient to enhance nutrition content.

To address persistent food inflation, the government distributed improved seeds, seedlings, and fertilizers to farmers, and enhanced farmland security through additional resources for agro rangers and security agencies.

The Minister also revealed efforts to boost livestock production, control pests and diseases, strengthen mechanization, and enhance agricultural research.
He added that the government has intensified measures to produce and process soybean, sesame, ginger, and hibiscus for export.
