The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced that the national grid is fully restored after a partial disturbance on Saturday.
According to a statement by TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, the disturbance was suspected to have been triggered by the unexpected tripping of three units of a power generating station.

The tripping of the units suddenly removed 313MW from the grid, causing system instability and the loss of bulk supply to a section of the national grid.
“The system disturbance is suspected to have been triggered by the unexpected tripping of three (3) units of a power generating station, which suddenly removed 313MW from the grid, causing system instability that led to the loss of bulk supply to a section of the national grid,” the statement read.
However, the System Operator reacted quickly to the sudden drop in generation, islanding a section of the grid that includes the Ibom Power Station.

This ensured continued supply to areas such as Uyo, Aba, Itu, Eket, and Calabar. Grid restoration efforts commenced immediately, and the entire affected section was successfully restored by 21:57 hours on Saturday.
“The operators commenced grid restoration efforts immediately after the incident. At about 21.57 hrs yesterday, the entire part of the grid that was affected by today’s incident was successfully restored,” the statement concluded.
