Electricity Distribution Companies Blame TCN Amid Tariff Increase

Three electricity distribution companies—Abuja, Benin, and Kano have blamed the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) for failing to provide a 20-hour power supply to customers on Band A feeders despite the recent astronomical tariff increase.

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) had approved the tariff hike last week specifically for Band A customers who receive at least 20 hours of electricity.

However, the distribution companies (DisCos) have encountered challenges in meeting the service level.

On their respective social media platforms, the DisCos appealed to Band A customers, seeking their understanding regarding the situation.

The prolonged power outage in parts of the Federal Capital Territory was attributed to a technical fault at the Gwagwalada Transmission Station, owned by TCN.

Residents of Gwako, University of Abuja Staff Quarters, Giri, University of Abuja Permanent Site, Iddo Sauki, and Iddo Sabo are urged to bear with the situation.

Also, customers connected to the 4 X 15MVA 33/11KV Kukwaba Injection Substation are currently without power, affecting areas such as Games Village, Moshood Abiola National Stadium, and The Eye Clinic.

Meanwhile, the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) extends its apologies to approximately 13 Band A feeders for falling short of the 20-hour electricity supply directive from NERC.
