Kwara United defeated Abakaliki FC in a thrilling penalty shootout to win the 2025 President Federation Cup and N50 million in prize money.

The final, held at Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, had every bit of drama one could hope for, with both teams giving their all.

However waves of attacks and near misses eventually went unresolved, with neither team able to find the net in regulation time; hence the penalties.

There, the Harmony Boys held their nerves to clinch a thriller, 4–3.

This hard-fought victory not only enhances Kwara United’s profile but also secures them a spot in next season’s CAF Confederation Cup and puts them on Africa’s elite platform.

Maintaining their composure in pressure created an image of a highly disciplined and focused team.

On the other hand, Abakaliki FC showed a lively spirit throughout the competition and received N20 million as runners-up.

Their trophy-less cup run ended, but their willingness and working quality tactics gained them lots of admirers.

Individual stars also stole the show. Victor Okoye was named player of the tournament, while teammate Suraju Ayeleso claimed best goalkeeper honours.

Additionally, Mercelle Akinocho topped the scoring charts, proving lethal in front of goal.

In the women’s section, Rivers Angels once again showed their class by defeating Nasarawa Amazons to lift the title.

They collected N25 million, while Nasarawa Amazons took home N10 million for second place.

This year’s President Federation Cup celebrated determination, flair, and sheer passion.

Moreover, it delivered unforgettable moments for fans across Nigeria and underlined how vital these competitions are for growing the game at every level.
