Essien Doesn’t Get Enough Credit – John Obi Mikel

Mikel John Obi thinks that Michael Essien, his former teammate at Chelsea, who he calls “a powerful machine,” doesn’t get the credit he deserves.

The former Nigerian international captain and Essien both played together at Chelsea for many years and also won many trophies together, including the 2009/2010 Premier League and their historic UEFA Champions League win in the 2012/2013 season.

Many pundits have rated the duo as the best Africans to play in the English Premier League.

Mikel has now taken his time to acknowledge and praise Essien for everything he has contributed to the sport, particularly the hard work he puts in during trainings.

In an interview with Dubai Eye, Mikel said Michael Essien never gets the credit he deserves.

He is the guy we call the train on the training grounds.

“He is a powerful machine, this guy. I mean the way he trains as well. Every day he is there working, working, working, and what a human being is.

“Apart from playing football, what a gentleman he is. Like we say, he is the train, he is the bison.”

Essien played for clubs such as Lyon, Chelsea, Real Madrid, and AC Milan, making over 400 professional appearances.

The former Black Stars midfielder is now following a coaching dream as he got his UEFA License A and UEFA Youth Elite A licences last week and is now an assistant coach for the Danish team FC Nordsjaelland.
