Nigeria has announced an ambitious plan to roll out 500 new Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) stations across the country, marking one of the largest clean-energy infrastructure expansions in the nation’s history.
The plan was disclosed in a new report released by the Midstream and Downstream Gas Infrastructure Fund (MDGIF).

The Executive Director of MDGIF, Mr Oluwole Adama, said discussions focused on establishing a government-backed special purpose vehicle to be jointly promoted by MDGIF, Bank of Industry (BOI), Endurance Group, and Séquor Investment Partners.
He explained:“The collaboration underscores the parties’ commitment to accelerating Nigeria’s transition to cleaner fuels by addressing infrastructure gaps across the country’s CNG value chain.
Under this agreement, we will set up the Compressed Natural Gas Auto Mobility Infrastructure Company, CAM InfraCo, which will be used to deploy 500 integrated CNG refuelling stations, develop LCNG gas supply infrastructure, and provide CNG and LNG transportation trucks with truck-mounted cascades, forming a virtual pipeline across all states nationwide.”
The Senior Special Adviser to the President on Special Duties and Domestic Affairs, Mr Oluwatoyin Subair, said the project aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s energy-security vision.
Subair noted that deeper adoption of auto-CNG will reduce overdependence on PMS and AGO, especially in the transportation sector, while supporting ongoing economic reforms.
Also speaking, the Chief Executive Officer of Endurance Group, Mr Eric Lin, said the special purpose vehicle aims to create a nationwide CNG refuelling, maintenance, and logistics ecosystem.
He said the company will:lease CNG equipment to certified operators and ensure a consistent, reliable gas supply through a world-class virtual pipeline network.
