ADC raises alarm over killing of members in Imo

The African Democratic Congress (ADC), Imo State chapter, has raised the alarm over the killing of two of its members in Okigwe Local Government Area of the state.

The victims were identified as the party’s Woman Leader in Amosu Umulolo Ward, Mrs Esther Chimezie Ijeoma, and Mr Ambrose Ndukwe, both indigenes of Okigwe. They were reportedly shot dead on Friday, January 30, 2026.

The party described the incident as tragic and deeply disturbing, saying it highlights the persistent security challenges facing Imo State.

This position was contained in a statement issued on Thursday by the ADC Imo State Publicity Secretary, Chief Macdonald Amadi, and made available to journalists in Owerri.

Amadi said the loss of innocent lives, irrespective of political affiliation, calls for serious reflection and urgent action by relevant authorities.

He stressed that the protection of lives and property remains the primary responsibility of any government, warning that continued violent attacks on citizens raise serious concerns about the effectiveness and prioritisation of public safety.

According to the party, the killings underscore the need for proactive leadership, clear security strategies and an unwavering commitment to safeguarding residents.

The ADC called on the authorities to conduct a comprehensive and transparent investigation into the killings, with findings made public within a reasonable timeframe.

The party also demanded the swift identification and prosecution of those responsible, in line with the rule of law, to ensure justice for the victims and deter future acts of violence.

The ADC expressed sympathy with the families of the deceased and urged the government to take decisive steps to restore peace and public confidence in Imo State.
