Brazil Coach Dorival Junior Takes Blame for Copa América Quarter-Final Exit

Dorival Junior

Brazil’s head coach, Dorival Junior, has accepted full responsibility for Brazil’s elimination from the 2024 Copa América quarter-finals. The Selecao were defeated 4-2 in a penalty shootout by Uruguay, who played with 10 men after Nahitan Nandez was sent off in the 74th minute.

“I must admit that these results were not what we expected, and I take full responsibility for them,” Dorival Junior told reporters. “However, I believe this team still has immense potential for growth and improvement.”

The match ended 0-0 after regular time, despite Uruguay being reduced to 10 men. Both Éder Militão and Douglas Luiz missed their penalties during the shootout, while Alisson Becker saved Uruguay defender José María Giménez’s attempt. Manuel Ugarte scored the decisive penalty to send Uruguay to the next round.
