Breaking: Fire Guts Popular Oba Market in Benin

The Oba Market in Benin, arguably one of the most popular markets in Edo State has gutted fire, Daily Report Nigeria can confirm.

Eye witnesses narrates that the furnace which gutted virtually every part of the massive market, began about 12:05am on Monday morning and burnt till 6am before the efforts gallant fire fighters finally put it off.

While the cause of the fire outbreak remain unknown, the possibility the fire being caused by an electrical spark was suspended as there was no public supply of power as at when the fire started.

Traders who were victims of the incident were seen wailing over their lost goods running to the hundreds of millions of naira.

The wailing traders pleaded with the Edo state Governor, Godwin Obaseki and other sons of the state to incline unto their aid, having lost their sources of livelihood.

Men of the Edo state Fire Service were branded with series of abuse over their inability to help put out the fire despite having their office situated close to the market.

They gave excuses of lack of water and moribund trucks for their ineffectiveness.

Daily Report Nigeria reliably gathered that the fire was finally put out following a combined effort of firefighters from the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company (NPDC) Limited, Airforce and the Edo state fire service.
