Darlington Odume, a legal practitioner has been murdered by fleeing gunmen.
Odume, also known as Omekagu, was killed in a store in Amaifeke, Orlu, in the state’s Local Government Area.
The murder occurred just 24 hours after hoodlums assassinated Emeka Merenu, the priest-in-charge of St Andrew’s Anglican Church Ihitte-Ukwa in Orsu LGA.

According to a source, the man was rushed to a local hospital but was initially turned down and was later transferred to the Imo State University Teaching Hospital in Orlu, where he died on the way.
The source says ‘They stormed a supermarket at Umudara Amaifeke, Orlu and shot him on the chest, and zoomed off.

“He was rushed to a hospital in the area, but they rejected him, referring them to the Imo State University Teaching Hospital, Orlu, but he died along the way.
“Omekagu was handling some of the cases of those arrested and believed to be innocent due to the violence in Orlu. His wife is a Police officer.
“The entire community has been thrown into mourning. His wife is a serving Police officer. This is very unfortunate,”
A journalist named Precious Nwadike encouraged security forces to apprehend the killers, then advised the government to protect the safety of people and property.
Michael Abattam, the state’s police spokesperson, confirmed the killing and said that Rabiu Hussaini, the state’s commissioner of police, has ordered a comprehensive investigation into the occurrence.
