A devastating incident occurred on Wednesday in the Gezawa area of Kano State, where a 38-year-old man, identified as Shafi’u Abubakar, intentionally set fire to a mosque while worshippers were engaged in early morning prayers.
According to eyewitnesses, Abubakar locked the mosque doors, poured petrol, and ignited the flames, putting the lives of numerous worshippers at risk.
Fortunately, no fatalities have been reported and the Kano State Police Command has announced the arrest of the primary suspect.

Abubakar claimed that his actions were motivated by a desire for revenge against individuals who had wronged him during the distribution of inherited property.

Meanwhile, the police have secured the scene, and 24 victims, including 20 men and 4 children, have been rescued and are receiving medical treatment at Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital in Kano.
